Ingrown Toenail Assessment & Removal Services

An ingrown toenail can make walking, wearing shoes and everyday activities uncomfortable. It develops when the edge of a toenail grows into or presses against the surrounding skin, most commonly affecting the big toe. As the nail continues to irritate the skin, the area may become painful, red and swollen, and broken skin can allow an infection to develop.

Without appropriate care, symptoms may become increasingly painful or lead to recurring problems. Narangba Station Medical Centre provides professional ingrown toenail assessment and treatment with experienced podiatrist Diana Chapoterera. From early symptoms to painful or recurring ingrown toenails, Diana will assess the problem and recommend treatment based on your individual needs.

If your GP has referred you for podiatry care, Diana Chapoterera can work alongside your doctor to support your foot and lower-limb health with personalised assessment, treatment and ongoing care.

Signs & Symptoms

Ingrown toenails can affect anyone, even when you do everything right. Patients should seek professional advice promptly if you notice signs of infection or if you have diabetes, reduced circulation or nerve damage affecting your feet.

Patients should enquire if you notice:

  • Pain or tenderness beside the toenail
  • Redness or swelling around the nail
  • Hardened or irritated skin
  • Bleeding, fluid or discharge
  • Pain when walking or wearing enclosed shoes
  • A toenail that repeatedly grows into the skin
  • Symptoms that are becoming worse rather than improving

Ingrown Toenail Treatments

Treatment depends on the severity of your symptoms, whether an infection is present and whether the problem has occurred before. Patients should avoid attempting to remove the affected section yourself, as this may worsen the irritation.

After assessing your toe, Diana may recommend:

  • Careful trimming or removal of the painful nail edge.
  • Professional cleaning and nail management.
  • Advice on nail-cutting technique and foot hygiene.
  • Footwear changes to reduce pressure on the toe.
  • Ongoing monitoring for recurring problems.
  • Partial nail removal where required.
  • Full nail avulsion where required.

Fees & Medicare Rebate

Podiatry consultations are privately billed and the fees listed below cover the consultation only. If you require nail treatment or removal, then additional treatment, follow-up or prescription costs may apply. You podiatrist will discuss these with you during your appointment.

Initial Consultation

  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Consultation Fee: $122.00

What to expect?

Your appointment will begin with a discussion about your symptoms, how long the problem has been present and whether you have experienced ingrown toenails before.

Diana will examine the nail and surrounding skin, check for signs of infection and consider factors such as your footwear, nail shape, circulation and general health. You will then receive a personalised treatment plan and practical advice for preventing future problems.

If a nail procedure is recommended, its timing, cost and aftercare requirements will be explained before treatment proceeds.
