Dry Needling Services
Dry Needling In Narangba
Dry needling is a physiotherapy technique that involves inserting fine, sterile needles into areas of muscle tension, often referred to as trigger points, to help relieve tightness, manage discomfort and improve movement. It is commonly used alongside other physiotherapy treatments, including manual therapy, individualised exercise programs and broader pain management strategies.
At Narangba Station Medical Centre, Stuart McClymont, a Physiotherapist and Pain Management Specialist with over 20 years of clinical experience, offers dry needling to both new and existing patients.
As dry needling is not suitable for everyone, Stuart will first assess your symptoms, medical history and treatment goals during your initial consultation to determine whether it may be appropriate for you. Where recommended, dry needling forms part of a personalised physiotherapy plan designed to support longer-term movement and function.

What is dry needle therapy?
Muscles can become tight and sometimes develop tender areas known as trigger points following an injury, repetitive movement, overuse or stress which contributes to muscle discomfort, stiffness and restricted movement.
During dry needle therapy, your trained physiotherapist carefully inserts a fine, sterile needle into the affected muscle to target these areas of tension to help reduce muscle tension and provide short-term pain relief for some people (although individual responses vary and research into the treatments effectiveness is still ongoing.
Unlike an injection, no medication or fluid is administered and you may experience a brief muscle twitch or cramping as the needle is inserted.

What to Expect
Before starting dry needling, Stuart will assess your symptoms, medical history and areas of discomfort to determine whether the treatment is appropriate for you. He will explain the procedure, discuss any potential risks and answer your questions before obtaining your consent.
During treatment, fine, sterile needles are carefully inserted into targeted areas of muscle tension. You may experience a brief twitch, cramping sensation or mild discomfort, although this usually passes quickly. Depending on the area being treated, the needles may remain in place for a short period before being removed.
Following your session, Stuart will provide advice on managing any discomfort, returning to normal activities and whether additional physiotherapy treatments or exercises may be beneficial.
After your appointment: Mild muscle soreness is relatively common and typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. Temporary bruising, minor bleeding at the needle site or tiredness may also occur.
