Weight Loss

The doctors at Narangba Station Medical Centre are experienced in weight loss management and are able to prescribe weight loss medication and treatment if necessary.

You may qualify for prescription weight loss medication under the following conditions:

  • Your BMI exceeds 26, or your waist circumference exceeds 80cm.
  • You have previously tried to lose weight through dietary or lifestyle changes.

The weight loss method involves an injection into the belly’s skin using an easy-to-use pen device at home. An alternative option is a pill taken once or twice daily. Your doctor will help determine the most suitable option for you.

The weight loss treatment diminishes appetite, reduces cravings, and provides a prolonged feeling of fullness. You may experience temporary nausea which can be relieved with diet ginger beer. Typically, people will continue treatment for 2-3 months.

Please note that we cannot prescribe this medication if you have type 1 diabetes, a history of pancreatitis, a past thyroid cancer diagnosis, multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN syndrome), or if you are underweight.

This treatment is not advised if you are in good health with only a small amount of excess fat. We may refer you to another specialist for advice on alternative options if we deem this treatment is not safe or suitable for you.

Please be aware that any consultation fees do not cover the cost of medication.
Medication must be obtained from a pharmacy with a prescription.
