A PNG visa medical usually includes a signed medical examination report, a chest X-ray for applicants aged 16 and over, and a blood test to check for HIV. Some visa categories may also ask for a urine test and our GPs can confirm exactly what your visa category needs.
All physical examinations and paperwork are completely on-site with your blood test through our on-site pathology collection. Where a chest X-ray is needed, we'll refer you to a nearby imaging provider and help coordinate the results back into your visa report. Required medical documents for PNG visas include:
- Medical Examination Report
- HIV Tests (Applicants Over 16 Years)
- Chest X-Ray (Applicants over 16 years of age).
A police certificate must be obtained from your local police station for all applicants 16 years of age and over (including dependents) intending to travel to PNG for 6 months or more.

How it works
Visa medicals for Papua New Guinea are typically a two-part process. The first part involves your initial health assessment, collecting your documentation and scheduling your blood test and x-rays. Then, once those results have returned, your doctor will then provide a follow-up consultation to review the results and complete the documentation.
Patients can expect the following process:
1. Read & Print Forms
Print all required documents and read through government guidelines to ensure you are prepared for your medical assessment.
2. Arrive Early
Arrive 10-15 minutes early and check in with reception. This gives us time to confirm your paperwork before your appointment.
3. Assessment & Tests
Your doctor will review your medical history, schedule a blood test and complete your initial assessment, based on your visa requirements.
4. Referrals
Whilst most tests are completed on-site, for any assessments that require a referral, we will refer you to the nearest clinic.Â
4. Review Results
Once your blood test and x-rays have returned, your doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment to review and provide health advice
5. Final Documetns
Your doctor will then complete the required documents as required and discuss anything additional related to travelling to Papua New Guinea.
Fees & Medicare Rebates
PNG visa medical assessments cost $297 (inc. GST) with additional services such blood tests and x-rays charged separately. Please note that all medical assessments for Papua New Guinea visas are privately billed and do not receive Medicare rebates. Your visa subclass may also determine the final cost depending on any additional tests required.
