What is Gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. This includes the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, liver, pancreas and gallbladder. A gastroenterologist is a medical doctor who specialises in diagnosing and treating conditions affecting these organs.

From common issues like reflux and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to more complex conditions such as Crohn’s disease or liver disease, gastroenterologists play a key role in identifying causes, managing symptoms, and preventing complications.

How can a Gastroenterologist help you?

If you’re experiencing ongoing digestive symptoms or have abnormal results from tests like a colonoscopy, liver function test, or stool analysis, a gastroenterologist can help uncover the cause. They may also provide long-term management for chronic gastrointestinal diseases, offer lifestyle and dietary guidance, and carry out procedures to investigate symptoms further.

Dr Madhavi Kasi works closely with your GP and other specialists to ensure you receive timely, holistic care that addresses both your symptoms and their underlying causes.

Our Gastroenterology Services

We offer a wide range of gastroenterology services through Dr Madhavi Kasi, with a strong focus on comprehensive assessments and collaborative care. Below are the some of the key conditions we can offer treatment for at Narangba Station Medical Centre:

Fees & Medicare

A valid GP referral is required to see Dr Madhavi Kasi. Medicare rebates apply for eligible consultations and investigations. Our reception team can provide an estimate of any out-of-pocket costs when you book your appointment.

If you hold private health insurance, Dr Kasi generally does not charge any additional fees beyond what your insurer covers for eligible procedures.

Please note that anaesthetist and hospital fees are billed separately. For procedures such as a colonoscopy, you can expect three invoices - one from the hospital, one from the anaesthetist, and one from Dr Kasi. The doctor’s fee can often be fully covered by most insurance policies, with no gap payment required.
