Over 75 Drivers Medical Certificates and Assessments Narangba, QLD.

Reinstated on August 1, 2022, Queensland law mandates that drivers aged 75 and over must complete an annual medical assessment and carry a valid motor vehicle medical certificate (Form F3712) at all times while driving. This certificate confirms their fitness to drive safely and includes any specific conditions that must be adhered to.

At Narangba Station Medical Centre, we recognise the importance of maintaining your independence while ensuring road safety for both yourself and others. As such, we specialise in providing quick and hassle-free medical assessments for drivers aged 75 and over in Brisbane, ensuring you meet legal requirements with minimal disruption to your daily routine.

How It Works

To complete your assessment and obtain your over 75 drivers medical certificate, follow these 5 simple steps:

  • Step 1: Make a booking at Narangba Station Medical Centre.
  • Step 2: Print a copy of the F3712 Form (Download Here)
  • Step 3: Complete section 1 of the form prior to your booking.
  • Step 4: Attend your appointment at the time of booking.
  • Step 5: Your GP then perform a series of medical assessments.

Once your doctor has signed the form, tear off the medical certificate portion and carry it with you whenever you drive, making sure the review/expiry date can be read. You must show your medical certificate to a police officer when requested.

If you do not have access to a printer or have issues with downloading the medical form, please arrive 15-20 minutes early to your appointment and our reception team will be able to provide you with a copy for you to complete prior to your booking.

Why do I need a certificate?

In Queensland, drivers aged 75 and over are legally required to carry a valid medical certificate to ensure their fitness to drive. This regulation mandates an annual health assessment, with the certificate valid for 13 months; detailing any specific conditions that must be followed.

The primary aim is to enhance road safety by ensuring senior drivers are physically and mentally capable of driving. As such, drivers of 75 years of age and over must undergo an annual medical review to maintain their licence, even if they have a longer-term licence. If the driver has or develops a medical condition that could affect their driving, regular medical tests or assessments are required.

By having a valid medical certificate, you are demonstrating adherence to Queensland’s driving laws, avoiding fines and penalties, and reassuring other drivers and their loved ones that you can drive safely.

How does age affect driving?

As you age, changes in vision, movement, and information processing can significantly affect your driving abilities. In particular, as you reach 75 years of age, your vision can deteriorate, making it harder to focus, see details like traffic signs, and notice obstacles.

Furthermore, medical conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetes can also impair vision. Therefore, to maintain good vision for driving, it's crucial to have regular eye check-ups, keep your glasses prescription up to date and obtain regular health checks. Some senior drivers also consider modifying their driving patterns to avoid night driving, or driving within peak periods to increase safety on the road.

As such, when planning trips, you should consider your comfort level with merging onto busy freeways, changing lanes in traffic, navigating unfamiliar routes, and handling busy intersections or roundabouts.
