Gardasil Vaccine Brisbane, QLD
HPV Vaccination for Children, Teens, and Adults
The Gardasil vaccination is offered in Australia to prevent the common virus HPV. Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause different forms of cancer and genital warts. HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact and most people will be exposed during their lifetime.
At Narangba Station Medical Centre, our GPs can give Gardasil vaccinations for children, teens and adults who are eligible. We can also advise you about HPV prevention, screening and general sexual health. Making sure you are up to date with the Gardasil vaccine can significantly lower your chances of contracting HPV cancers.
Call our friendly team if you're unsure if you or your child are eligible. We can take a look at your previous vaccinations and let you know what you need.
Protect Your Health with the Gardasil Vaccine

What is the Gardasil Vaccine?
Gardasil is a vaccine used to prevent infection by human papillomavirus types that can cause cervical cancer, throat cancer, anal cancer, and genital warts. The vaccine allows your body to recognise and attack the virus if you come into contact with it before it can affect you.
HPV can cause infections with no symptoms, so you can have it and not know it. Getting vaccinated means you're building protection against the virus and any issues it might cause later on.
What Does the Gardasil Vaccine Protect Against?
The Gardasil vaccine protects against the most common high-risk HPV types linked to cancer, as well as low-risk types that cause genital warts.
Vaccination significantly reduces the risk of:
- Cervical cancer.
- Anal cancer.
- Oropharyngeal (throat) cancers.
- Genital warts.
It is most effective when given before exposure to HPV, which is why it is recommended at a younger age.
How HPV Spreads?
HPV spreads through skin-to-skin contact during vaginal, anal or oral sex. You can get HPV without having penetrative sex.
Many HPV infections go away by themselves. Others stay in the body for years and can lead to health problems. Screening (cervical screening tests) and vaccination work together to protect you.
Preventing HPV
The most effective way to prevent HPV is through the Gardasil vaccine. It provides long-lasting protection and is a key part of cancer prevention strategies in Australia.
Additional prevention tips include:
- Attending regular cervical screening tests.
- Practising safe sex.
- Being aware of sexual health and risk factors.
Vaccination helps protect not only you, but also the wider community by reducing the spread of HPV.
Gardasil Vaccination
The Gardasil vaccination is usually offered to teenagers through school vaccination programmes but is also available for adults who either missed out at younger age groups or who want protection from HPV related diseases at any age.
If you have the vaccination as a younger individual, you will only need two vaccinations, however if you start the process later on in life you will need three vaccinations. Your GP will be able to tell you what is best for you based on your age, medical history and risk factors.
Gardasil Vaccine Side Effects
The Gardasil vaccine is generally very safe and well-tolerated. Like any vaccine, it can cause some mild side effects.
| Side Effect Frequency | Possible Side Effects |
|---|---|
| Common | Soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site, mild fever, headache, or fatigue. |
| Less Common | Nausea or dizziness. |
| Rare | Serious side effects are extremely rare. |
Your GP will always discuss potential risks with you and ensure the Gardasil vaccine is appropriate for your individual health needs.
Is the Gardasil Vaccine Safe?
Gardasil has been extensively studied and monitored around the world. In Australia, Gardasil is approved for use and is recommended by governments and health organisations as a safe and effective vaccine to prevent HPV related diseases.
Millions of doses have been given worldwide and there is good evidence that it is safe to protect against HPV in the long-term.
HPV: Vaccine-Preventable
Given that HPV is an infection we can prevent with vaccines, these immunisations are considered paramount in ending cancer in Australia. In some professional or clinical settings, documentation of your immunisation status could be required.

The Shingrix vaccine can still be purchased by those who are not eligible for the free vaccine under the NIP program.
Please see our Fees page for a detailed overview of our medical fees and charges.
