Commercial Drivers Medical Assessments Brisbane, QLD.

Commercial drivers licence medicals are routinely carried out by our doctors at Narangba Station Medical Centre. If you drive, or intend to drive a vehicle for commercial reasons (e.g. a class MR, HR, HC or MC vehicle, drive a bus or a personalised transport service), you will need to have regular medical reviews as per Queensland road laws.

At Narangba Station Medical Centre, we undertake all types of commercial drivers medical assessments in an efficient and professional manner. Simply tell your assessing doctor what commercial driving medical you require and we will ensure that the appropriate tests are undertaken correctly under the right commercial standards. To book a commercial driving medical assessment, call (07) 3521 4333 or book online via our online booking system. Alternatively, you can download the AMS Connect App to book an appointment directly from your phone.

Commercial Fitness To Drive Reports

Additionally to commercial drivers medicals, we can also assist with medicals for Fitness to Drive reports. While not every commercial driver needs this (they are often obtained voluntarily or at the request of the employer), Fitness to Drive assessments have three stages:

These forms have been developed to support health assessments for fitness for duty for commercial vehicle drivers. They are intended to facilitate assessments required for schemes such as TruckSafeOpens and NHVAS Fatigue Management Accreditation distinctly from driver licensing.

It should also be noted that commercial drivers can also seek a fitness to drive health assessment themselves if they are self-employed or need to have a Fitness to Drive Report in order to apply for a job.

How It Works

To complete your commercial drivers medical assessment, please follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Book an appointment with one of our friendly doctors.
  • Step 2: Print a copy of the F3712 and F3195 commercial drivers form.
  • Step 3: Print a copy of the F2978 (New) or F2979 (Renewals) form.
  • Step 3: On both forms, complete Part 1 prior to your appointment.
  • Step 4: Read all forms carefully prior to your appointment.
  • Step 5: Attend your appointment 10 minutes before schedule.
  • Step 6: Your doctor will then perform a series of assessments as required by law.

After completing the F3195 Private and Commercial Vehicle Driver’s Health Assessment, your doctor will then complete the Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (form F3712) for you to present to the Department of Transport and Main Roads. In addition to the F3712 and F3195 forms, you will also need to complete your Driver Authorisation Form.

It is recommended that you complete the health questionnaire prior to attending your appointment and if you need to wear glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids when driving, bring these with you to the assessment.

Please Note: If you do not have access to a printer or have issues with downloading the medical form, please arrive 15-20 minutes early to your appointment and our reception team will be able to provide you with a copy for you to complete prior to your booking.

Our Fees

Narangba Station Medical Centre is a mixed billing medical practice. The cost of commercial driving medical assessments are $180.00 + GST. Unfortunately, as this health assessment is for work purposes, commercial drivers health checks are not eligible for medicare rebates. However, we will provide you with a tax invoice for your records.

Additionally, we find that some of our patients are able to claim this expense back from the company they are working with.

Truck Drivers Medical Assessment

One of the most common commercial fitness to drive medicals we complete is for truck drivers in Queensland. As a heavy good vehicle driver, the demand on your body is greater than that of a private vehicle driver. You are on the roads longer and the complexities of your vehicle require good vision, physical ability and cognitive capacity.

For licensing purposes, the commercial vehicle driver standards apply to drivers of medium rigid vehicles and larger. Of which, the specific requirements for medical assessments for commercial licensing (whether assessments are required and how often) differ between the states and territories.

To find out more about fitness to drive standards for truck drivers, visit the commercial drivers page on the official Austroads website.

Taxi Drivers Medical Assessment

Similarly to truck drivers, public passenger vehicle licence holders such as taxi drivers, Uber rideshare drivers and restricted hire car drivers are also required to undergo commercial fitness-to-drive medical assessments, given the unique demands of their profession.

As a passenger vehicle driver, not only are you driving for long periods of time, sharp cognitive abilities are also paramount to ensure passenger safety and comfort. The medical assessments ensure that drivers meet the necessary health criteria to safely operate their vehicles.

To book a drivers medical for public passenger vehicle drivers, simply call us on (07) 3521 4333 or book online via our online booking system. Alternatively, you can download the AMS Connect App to book an appointment directly from your phone.
