What is psychology?
Psychology is the study of human behaviour, thoughts, and emotions - and how these influence everyday life. In a clinical setting, psychologists help individuals better understand themselves and work through emotional, behavioural and mental health challenges using evidence-based therapy techniques.
Unlike psychiatrists, psychologists do not prescribe medication. Instead, they use therapeutic approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other strategies to support emotional resilience, problem-solving, and personal growth.
How can a psychologist help?
Psychologists can assist with a wide range of mental health concerns. Whether you're managing stress, navigating change, or living with anxiety or depression, working with a psychologist can help you explore new coping strategies, build confidence, and gain clarity.
You might see a psychologist for:
- Anxiety and panic
- Depression and low mood
- Stress and burnout
- Grief and loss
- Relationship or family challenges
- Low self-esteem or confidence
- Life transitions and adjustment issues
- Support for chronic health conditions

Psychology consultations are privately billed. If you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year.
Patients with a GP Mental Health plan are eligible for a Medicare rebate of: $96.65
What to Expect
Your first session is an opportunity to explore your concerns in a safe, confidential space. Our Psychologist will ask questions about your background, what brings you to therapy, and what you’d like to achieve. The goal is to get to know you and build a strong foundation for future sessions.
Each standard session lasts approximately 50 minutes. Follow-up sessions may focus on developing coping strategies, exploring patterns of behaviour, and working toward the personal goals you’ve identified. Some people benefit from short-term support, while others may engage in longer-term therapy depending on their needs.
