How it Works
To complete your near-coastal seafarer medical assessment, follow these simple steps:
- Step 1: Book your appointment at Narangba Station Medical Centre.
- Step 2: Download and print AMSA Form 1850 – Certificate of Medical Fitness.
- Step 3: Fill out the personal information section before attending.
- Step 4: Bring your completed form to your appointment.
- Step 5: Our GP will conduct a thorough medical assessment and complete the official AMSA form for you to submit with your application.
No printer? Arrive 15–20 minutes early, and we can provide a hard copy of the form for you to complete beforehand.

We're open 7 days a week with late-night availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Weekend appointments are also available to all patients.

Your GP will take the time to conduct a thorough health evaluation to ensure you meet the medical fitness requirements for near-coastal work. This includes:
1. Vision and Colour Vision Testing
Including the use of Ishihara plates to check for colour blindness, which is crucial for safety at sea.
3. Cardiovascular and Respiratory Health
Including blood pressure, heart and lung function.
5. Mental Health and Cognitive Screening
To assess your ability to make sound decisions, manage stress and maintain focus under pressure.
2. Hearing Checks
To ensure you can respond to verbal instructions and audio signals in a marine environment.
4. Neurological and Musculoskeletal Assessment
Checking your reflexes, coordination, strength and mobility.
6. Review of Medications
Substance use and medical history to identify anything that may affect your ability to safely perform your duties at sea.
